Offered are 35 original news service photos of 1920s-1960s University of Notre Dame football stars and coaches including members of the vaunted 1924 "Four Horsemen," including Harry Stuhldreher, Don Miller, Jim Crowley, and Elmer Layden. There are many photos of Crowley as a player bur also as a coach at a number of universities. Most of the photos can be described as "Type I", ie first generation photos made in the era they were taken, but there are certainly others that are technically second generation photos. The dates are approximated based on the news service stampings and captions on the back of the photos. Photos mostly measure 8 x 10 inches, with some just smaller. Many present with expected newsroom markings and even some inpainting for newspaper production purposes. Excellent condition overall with some lesser.
