Offered is a latter dated August 31, 1932, signed by sitting President Herbert Hoover. The letter was sent to a "Sidney Maestre," the President of the Mississippi Valley Trust Company--one of many business leaders that had just met at the White House the week before to brainstorm ideas to help the country out of the deepening economic depression. The letter reads in part: " I deeply appreciate your willingness to join in the active measures inaugurated at the conference last Friday. It is a great encouragement to the country as a whole that you and other leaders are so willing to cooperate in meeting the difficulties of the times. Yours faithfully, Herbert Hoover." Apparently the ideas weren't great and a little late--the country continued to slip deeper in the Great Depression, and Hoover was swept out of office by FDR just months later. Accompanied by LOA from Beckett Authentic. Steve Grad Collection.
