Offered are the first three issues of TV Guide to feature Elvis Presley during his first appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show.
It wasn't long before the young, charming, budding star Elvis was featured on the cover of TV Guide in the September 9, 1956 issue, the same date Elvis first appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show. Fans were hungry for anything Elvis and TV Guide was happy to deliver, as evidenced by its dedication of three sequential issues to a three-part article about Elvis. The first issue covers the week of September 8-14 and pictures Elvis singing on the cover with the title, “The Plain Truth About Elvis Presley." The article's subtitle says it all: “The People Who Know Say He Does Have Talent."
Part II of the Elvis article series appears in the September 22-28 issue (with Hal March on the cover) and is titled “What Folks Back Home Say About Presley" and continues with the subheading, “The Folks He Left Behind Him."
The third and last in the series appears in the next week's issue, September 29-October 5 (with Jackie Gleason on the cover) and is titled “Presley's Own Answer to His Critics," the subtitle of which is “He Tells How the Little Wiggle Grew." Each article contains multiple images of the rising star, including pictures of Elvis on The Steve Allen Show and with Milton Berle. Elvis would appear on over 40 covers of TV Guide over the years, but these three could be considered his introduction to the fans at home. The magazines present intact, with edge and binding wear. Excellent condition.
