Offered is a huge banner touting Elvis Presley's 1961 release of Blue Hawaii as “Ecstatic Romance...Exotic Dances...Exciting Music...In The World’s Lushest Paradise of Song!” The bright blue background of this larger paper poster reflects the color of the seas and skies surrounding the magical island. Released by Paramount in November of 1961, Blue Hawaii won fourth-place Laurel Award for Best Musical in 1961. In 1962, Hal Kanter’s screenplay was nominated by the Writers Guild of America for Best Written American Musical. In the film, the first of several movies that Elvis filmed on location in Hawaii, Elvis plays Chadwick Gates, recently released from the Army and returning to his home in Hawaii. The movie reached number two on the Variety box office charts and was the 10th top-grossing film of 1961, earning over $5 million. The soundtrack album remained on the Billboard pop chart for 70 weeks, with 20 of those at number 1. The banner measures approximately 24 by 80 inches and presents with only minor loss of the silk-screened ink, which is quite common in these posters. There are areas of scuffing and edge wear with some very small tears. Excellent to Mint condition.
