The offered "Wide World Photos" news service wire photo features Elvis Presley and Danny Thomas at the February 14, 1964, presentation of the yacht Potomac to St. Jude Hospital. The period photo has the caption embedded (by definition making it a 2nd generation photo by collecting standards), and it reads "Long Beach, Calif. Feb. 14--FDR YACHT PRESENTED TO MEMPHIS HOSPITAL--Danny Thomas (left) and Elvis Presley stand on the pier opposite the Potomac, formerly the yacht of President Franklin d. Roosevelt, as Thomas accepted the craft in [sic] behalf of St. Jude Hospital of Memphis, Tenn., at Long Beach, Calif., today. Presley bought the yacht at auction recently for $55,000, intending to give it to the March of Dimes, but the organization declined the offer. About 400 persons were present as Presley turned over the ship's keys to Thomas. (AP wirephoto)." Wide World Photos was a subsidiary of Associated Press, and their period stamping is on the reverse. The photo measures 8 x 10 inches and presents with minor album residue on the reverse. Near Mint condition.
