1971 Elvis Presley Handwritten Numerology Notes on Envelope - Given to Las Vegas Cocktail Waitress (Elvira "Mistress of the Dark")

Offered is a an envelope COVERED with Elvis Presley's handwritten notes concerning numerology. The envelope emanates from the personal collection of Cassandra Peterson, better known by her persona "Elvira Mistress of the Dark." Peterson met Elvis at one of his parties in his massive suite at The International Hotel in Las Vegas. The two hit it off, and they stayed up all night talking. In her memoir, Yours Cruelly, Elvira, Peterson recalls the events of that night:

That story led to a very heavy, very long conversation about spirituality, religion, numerology, and astrology, which, unknown to me, Elvis had been info for years. he explained that what had happened to me was no coincidence. For emphasis, he grabbed an envelope addressed to his dad, Vernon Presley and scribbled some numbers and letters on the front and back. The numbers correlated to letters that spelled out words like "love, "light" and "home."

Peterson told him how his 1964 film Viva Las Vegas had inspired her to follow her dream of becoming a showgirl in Vegas, and that night at The International he recommended she take singing lessons and leave Las Vegas--advice she took and which changed the rest of her career. Peterson recalls the story happening in 1969, but based on the postmark date of "JAN 25 71" on the envelope, it was actually in 1971. This timing makes a lot more sense based on Peterson's career--it was that year that she landed a role as a showgirl in the James Bond film Diamonds are Forever which just happened to be filming in front of The International Hotel that April and May (see photos at left of Sean Connery on set in front of the hotel and of Peterson in her role as a showgirl in the film). Furthermore, Elvis and his entourage arrived in Las Vegas to party from May 7 through May 10 that year. The timing seems to work out. Cassandra stored the envelope with a 1970 postcard of Elvis that advertises Worldwide Gold Hits Vol. 1. The envelope is a record of a long conversation, notes made by Elvis as he is discussing numerology with Peterson during that long night. Phrases like "IT DOES NOT MATTER IF YOU REALIZE/GOD SEVEN ELEVEN" and "THE HEART SELF SELVES UNIVERSE-AL". Heady stuff. The envelope measures 9 1/2 x 4 1/2 inches and presents with wear from mailing and handling. Excellent condition.
