Offered is a fascinating typed letter sent by Eddie Fadal FROM Graceland during a visit with Elvis in 1961. Elvis had become close with Eddie while in basic training at Fort Hood. The Fadal home was a respite for Elvis from the base and prying eyes of the media and fans. He stayed there often, as did his parents when they came to Texas. In the letter, which is typed in red ink and whose original envelope is postmarked March 2, 1961, Eddie describes to his wife his time with Elvis, which includes seeing several movies, accompanying Elvis to the dentist for a tooth extraction and even reading the script for Elvis' upcoming film, Beach Boy (that was the working title of Blue Hawaii. He remarks early in the letter "Don't know how long I will be here at this time, but El has a recording session for Sunday in Nashville and you know how much I would want to be with him for a session.” This session in Nashville ended up happening on Sunday/Monday, March 12/13, 1961. The original envelope is Elvis' personal stationary, and also included are four photographs. Two are original news service photos of the Fadal's Waco home, and two are later photos of Eddie. The letter measures 8 ½ x 11 inches and presents with original mailing folds and small areas of staining and very minor paper loss at a one of the folds. Excellent condition overall.
