Offered is a "Guest" metal badge from Elvis Presley's appearance at the 1970 Houston Livestock & Rodeo where he performed to record crowds. The firgural badge measures 2 x 1 1/4 inches. Also included are two 5 x 3 1/2 inch period photos of Elvis performing at the show. The photos have the period "KODAK" watermarks on the back as well as stampings from "The Elvsi Presley Record Club". The Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo’s main goal was to raise scholarship funds for needy boys and girls. Louis Pearce helped move the Rodeo to the Astrodome and booked Elvis for a three-night engagement in 1970. Of all the celebrities that performed at the rodeo concert series, Elvis made the biggest impression. Louis Pearce of course had to go through tough negotiations with the Colonel to get Elvis booked, and although Pearce explained to the Colonel that this was an event for which they volunteered and did not make a profit on, the Colonel responded, “Well, so we can get this thing off on the right foot: I won’t give anybody a stick of gum. Now y’all start talking.” Elvis was polite and courteous during the negotiations.
