The XIII Winter Olympic Games in Lake Placid in 1980 will forever remembered for "The Miracle on Ice," when the U.S. Mens Hockey Team beat the formidable, and heavily favored, Russion team in the semi-final game. They would of course go on to win the gold in the final over Finland, but it was that unbelievable win over the Soviet's that defined those Olympic Games, as commentator Al Michaels asked the legendary question on the broadcast "Do you believe in miracles?" The offered presentation medal would have been given to an athlete or coach that attended and competed in the games. These treasures are hard to come by for collectors, and mostly they are found without the original presentation box, which is included here. Herb Brooks' personal example of this participation medal sold for more than $7,000 in recent years. Any artifact related to the site of perhaps the most glorious triumph in United States Olympic history are always highly sought after. The medal measures 3 inches in diameter, and the presentation box measures 4 x 4 inches. Near Mint condition.
