In 1912, the 20-year old shortstop and future Hall of Famer Rabbit Maranville played 122 games and batted .283 for the New Bedford Whalers of The New England League. The offered photographic postcard captures the budding young star with his Whaler teammates and coaches in a wonderful, early team photo. This is surely one of the earliest photos of Maranville in a baseball uniform that exists. On September 10 that year, Maranville would be called up by the Boston Braves, and he never looked back. In his first full season the next year he finished third in National League MVP voting, and the year after that he was second to his teammate Johnny Evers. The postcard measures 5 ½ x 3 ¼ inches and presents with heavy wear and paper loss at two corners. GD condition.
