Offered is an extensive archive related to Elvis Presley's concerts at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo in 1970 and 1974, as well as the 1976 Houston Summit show.The Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo’s main goal was to raise scholarship funds for needy boys and girls. Louis Pearce helped move the Rodeo to the Astrodome and booked Elvis for a three-night engagement in 1970. Of all the celebrities that performed at the rodeo concert series, Elvis made the biggest impression. Louis Pearce of course had to go through tough negotiations with the Colonel to get Elvis booked, and although Pearce explained to the Colonel that this was an event for which they volunteered and did not make a profit on, the Colonel responded, “Well, so we can get this thing off on the right foot: I won’t give anybody a stick of gum. Now y’all start talking.” Elvis was polite and courteous during the negotiations. This collection includes:
- 1970 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo "Official" Badge (2 x 1/4 inches);
- 1970 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Official Souvenir Program;
- Two very clear 3 1/2 x 3 1/2 inch snapshots of Elvis Presley entering the Astrodome before one of the 1970 concerts, with orignial "Kodachrome Prints" envelope;
- 1974 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Official Program for Sunday Night, March 3;
- Photograph of Elvis on stage at 1975 Hofheinz Pavilion concert, 3 1/2 x 5 inches;
- 1975 Hofheinz Pavilion ticket stub;
- Swatch of bedsheet from the hotel where Elvis stayed, The Whitehall; and
- Five 1970 newspaper clippings about ELvis Presley concerts, including one with a photo showing him wearing one of the "OFFICIAL" badges.
Its a great group of material and photographs commemorating one of Elvis Presley's most triumphant concert experiences. Excellent to Mint condition overall with a few pieces just lesser.
