The offered RIAA Gold Record Award was certified in 1973 for Elvis Presley's 1970 release Worldwide 50 Gold Award Hits Vol. 1. In 1970, The Colonel wished to capitalize on Elvis’ older material by compiling a four-LP box set release for a special price. This special four-LP set, Worldwide 50 Gold Award Hits Vol. 1, would be released in August 1970 during Elvis' 1970 Las Vegas Summer Festival. The Colonel's marketing efforts during the Summer Festival were structured around the release and branded as "THE BIG 50." This phrase could be seen on satin banners literally all over the Las Vegas International Hotel and even on special gifts like lighters that the Colonel gave out to VIPs.

This album and was certified gold by the RIAA on February 1973. Gold discs were awarded by RIAA for album sales in excess of one million dollars from 1958 to 1974. This framed award displays a plaque, next to a small image of the album cover and mounted beneath the gold record with orange label, that reads “Presented to ELVIS PRESLEY to commemorate the sale of more than one million dollars worth of the RCA RECORDS long-playing record album ‘WORLDWIDE 50 GOLD AWARD HITS, VOL. 1,’” all set against a white linen matte background. The award measures 17 1/2 x 21 1/2 inches and presents with only mild wear to the wooden frame and some mild, even toning in the matte area. Near Mint condition.
