Offered is an RIAA Platinum Record Award for the 1978 film soundtrack Grease. Also included is an 8x10 photo signed by the film's co-star Olivia Newton-John. The soundtrack was released two months prior to the film's release and rocketed to number one on the Billboard charts. The song "You're the One That I Want" was a U.S. and UK No. 1 for stars John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John. The album also featured songs by Sha Na Na as well as the hit song "Grease", a tune written by Barry Gibb and sung by Frankie Valli that was an additional U.S. No. 1. The soundtrack was certified Platinum on May 9, 1978, still a MONTH prior to the film's release. The offered award was presented to an industry marketing executive, and its plaque reads "PRESENTED TO POLYGRAM DISTRIBUTION, INC. TO COMMEMORATE THE SALE OF MORE THAN 1,000,000 OF THE RSO RECORDS LONG PLAYING ALBUM 'GREASE' THE ORIGINAL MOVIE SOUNDTRACK." The award measures 17 x 21 1/2 inches and presents with some heavy wear to the wooden frame, which has been repaired to its original glory. Very Good to Excellent condition.
