Offered is an RIAA Platinum Record Award for Elvis Presley's 1958 LP Elvis' Golden Records. March 24, 1958 was a time of worry and panic for young Elvis fans as he was inducted into the Army. Elvis himself was concerned about being out of the limelight for two years and despite efforts to stockpile material in advance of his departure, RCA had been left with very little with which to work to keep its star relevant. On March 21, 1958, just days before his departure, RCA released a compilation album of Elvis’ fourteen biggest-selling hits from 1956 and 1957 on one LP. Elvis’ Golden Records reached number three on the Billboard charts and has sold almost six million copies in the United States alone. The album was initially certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America on October 7, 1961 and was certified with Platinum status in May 1988. The offered award would have been produced after that 1988 certification and may have been made in the batch with copies that were sent to RCA, Elvis or Colonel Parker, as it was common to make multiple copies for RCA executives, other musicians involved with the record or other music industry professionals. None of Elvis' personally owned RIIA Awards have ever left Graceland. The award measures 17 x 21 inches and presents with only minor wear. Near Mint condition.
