Offered is an Elvis Presley owned Stetson hat provided by Nudies Rodeo Tailors in North Hollywood California for film use. Nudies was an institution in the entertainment and movie industry by the 1960s, and they were entrusted to provide the hats for Elvis' 1969 film, Charro. The offered hat was never used on film, but legendary clothing designer Manuel Cuevas confirmed that this hat was indeed from Nudies--the interior band stampings include Nudies trademark logo as well as "Elvis Presley" in gold script. Manuel Cuevas, who famously designed clothing for Nudie Cohn in that period, is often credited with dressing Johnny Cash in all black when he first started designing him clothing in the 1950s. For the main character in a film like Charro, it would have been standard procedure to provide several hats on set, as there were several shirts and other parts of the star's wardrobe made ready in case something was damaged during filming. The offered hat is similar in style and size to other known examples from the film. The other stampings on the interior include "John B. Stetson Company 3X Beaver" and XXX STETSON". The classic Stetson hat measures 15 inches in diameter and presents with only mild signs of use and wear and is missing its original exterior band. Excellent condition.
