While the offered Official American League baseball is signed by Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig and 27 other players spanning the next 40 years, the inclusion of 1927 Pittsburgh Pirates Manager Donie Bush and Infielder Joe Cronin indicate that is was likely "started" during the 1927 World Series. These "Barnard" baseballs were issued in October 1927, when Ernest S. Barnard became commmissioner of the American League, and furthermore, "1927" is written over the "REACH" logo on the west panel. In the ''27 Series, Yanks swept Bush''s Pirates in four games, with Game 3 and Game 4 at Yankee Stadium. The young man who acquired the signatures lived in New York for many years where he continued to add signatures into the 1960s, when he relocated to Chicago. In addition to its ''27 Series lineage, the ball also features 16 Hall of Famers, three 500 Home Run Hitters (Ruth, Mays, Mantle), two 60 Home Run Hitters (Ruth and Maris) and one member of the 1919 Black Sox (Red Faber).
