Offered is an incredible Jerry Garcia early 1960's Original Oil Painting. The painting is accompanied by a Letter of Authenticity from the Weir Gallery Archive that reads in part "This painting date form the early sixties, when the artist was attending the San Francisco Art Institute, and reflects the classical values honored in the figure painting classes. The composition and colors accord with other works from the same early period." It's an incredible relic from arguably one of the most important and respected musicians in the history of American music.

By the early 1950s, San Francisco's North Beach had become the West Coast center of the Beat Movement, and music, poetry, and discourse were an intrinsic part of artists' lives. And this ever-growing spirit is likely what attracted a young Jerry Garcia to start attending classes at what would become the "San Francisco Art Institute," likely either just before or just after his stint in the Army. Though he never stopped drawing, his music career naturally took precedence over his pursuits as a visual artist, but by the mid-1980s, Garcia began to make more time for fine art. 

The painting is also accompanied by a letter of provenance signed by Hank Harrison, who owned the painting for many years. In the 1960s, Harrison managed a band called "The Warlocks" before they became The Grateful Dead. In college, he was roommates with Dead co-founder Phil Lesh, and he was the father of musician Courtney Love.

The painting measures 15 x 21 inches and is framed beautifully with a plaque that reads: "As lead guitarist, lead singer and principal songwriter for the legendary 1960's rock band, The Grateful Dead, Garcia was famed for his improvisations and was ranked by Rolling Stone magazine as #13 on its list of the all-time greatest guitarists. Touring for thirty years, the "Dead" performed 2,314 concerts, followed from site to site by loyal fans know as "Deadheads". Also a skilled visual artist, his artwork includes drawings, watercolors, acrylics, and digital media which lends new insight into his boundless creativity."
