Offered is an Beckett-encapsulated bank check signed by Ted Kennedy, the 19th-century pitcher credited as an inventor of the catcher’s mitt. After brief major-league pitching stints with Chicago, Philadelphia, and Louisville in 1885–86, Kennedy patented mitt designs, sold them to A.G. Spalding, and later ran a baseball school that taught the curveball.
