G.I. Blues is the romping tale of Tulsa McLean (Elvis) being forced into a less-than-chivalrous wager involving the long-legged Lili (Juliet Prowse of L’eggs Pantyhose commercial fame). G.I. Blues’ style of light plot and plenty of music would become the template for most of Elvis’ films in the decade. The soundtrack album was released by RCA in October of 1960 to coincide with the opening of the film in November. As a nod to military hats, promotional paper versions advertising the new album were created to market Elvis’ return from service and his new similarly-themed movie and soundtrack album. The paper souvenir hats were distributed as movie theater premiums. The hat reads “AVAILABLE AT RCA VICTOR DEALERS / ELVIS’ ‘G.I. Blues’ Album” on one side and “NOW... AT YOUR FAVORITE THEATRE / ELVIS in ‘G.I. Blues’ / A Hal Wallis Production - A Paramount Picture” on the other, with both sides featuring an illustration of Elvis in his Army uniform. Also included is a copy of the small letter that accompanied hats that were sent from Colonel Parker''s office to various Elvis Fan Clubs around the country. The hat measures 5 1/2 by 11 inches and presents in Near Mint condition
